Specific services to be managed include tracking of authorized users, use locations, radioactive sources, radioactive waste, and equipment; monitoring exposures to the public and occupational workers for internal and external radiation exposure; ensure appropriate detection, monitoring, and analysis equipment is in use; tracking and maintaining exposure to radiation and releases to the environment ALARA; providing effective training; monitoring compliance with all applicable regulations and license conditions; reviewing and commenting on proposed regulations; implementing a security program for Category 1 and Category 2 quantities of radioactive material; coordinating the activities of the Radiation Safety Committee. The Assistant Director Radiation Safety/RSO of the Radiation Safety Program, sets priorities and activities, establishes, directs and manages Radiation Safety policies and programs within the Office of Research Safety, consistently improves performance, and directly manages associated staffing, budget, services, equipment and training.
