The Division of Medical Genetics has a long history of strong laboratory, translational and clinical research programs centered on lysosomal and glycogen storage disorders, autism, Fragile X syndrome, 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, Down syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, hypophosphatasia, and identifying patients with an undiagnosed disease through the Undiagnosed Disease Network. The Research Triangle Park, a globally prominent high-tech research and development center conceived around the three academic centers in the region, has made the area culturally diverse, economically resilient and nationally recognized as a great place to live and work.
