Consistent with its strong regional presence, the PICU admits patients with a wide variety of diagnoses such as sepsis, acute lung injury, multi-organ system failure, multi-system trauma, bone marrow and solid organ transplant, and acute neurological emergencies. Capabilities are typical for a large quaternary PICU which includes high level ventilatory support modalities including specialty gases and HFOV, renal replacement therapies, plasma exchange, and an active ECMO program that performs 30 cases/year.
