To drive an ambulance in a BLS Non-Emergent transport, drivers must complete training in driving an ambulance including completion of the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC), transferring patients to and from an ambulance and stretcher, loading and loading of the stretcher, be familiar with the equipment and supplies in an ambulance, training on proper use of a stair chair and completion of a bloodborne pathogens training. To drive a wheelchair van, drivers must complete a passenger assistance training course to include at a minimum the basic characteristics of major disabling conditions affecting ambulation, basic considerations for functional factors, management of wheelchairs, assistance and transfer techniques, environmental considerations, and emergency procedures.
