WHAT WE NEED FROM A VICTIM SUPPORT SPECIALISTHigh school diploma; plus, specialized training in victim assistance program management and operationsAND2+ years of experience in victim advocate setting or related human services areaORAn equivalent combination of education and experienceWorking knowledge of crisis intervention theory and techniques, sexual/physical abuse principles, child and adult protection services, social service systems (legal, court, medical, and referral sources), State of Utah laws/regulations regarding victim's rights, procedures of the justice systemSome knowledge of legal proceedings and legal terminologySkills to use personal computers and various software applicationsAbility to operate office equipment including copy machine, fax machine, etc. You review reports to identify individuals in need of support, connect them with necessary resources, and serve as a liaison between victims and justice system professionals to ensure effective communication and case progress.
