Responsibilities:

The SANE Program Coordinator RN coordinates the BHN SANE program; provides staff training, education, and helps ensure compliance with evidence collection and storage, collaborates with law enforcement and other related agencies in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

 

  • Provide oversight, maintenance, and support to the SANE program
  • Develop an orientation plan for new examiners
  • Manage an on-call schedule for examiners
  • Explore grant funding opportunities
  • Ensure BHN compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards
  • Help provide oversight to the collection, storage, and transport of exam kits according to state requirements for all ED sites within the network
  • Collaborate with educators and other leaders to help facilitate staff training and education pertaining to victims of violence, assault, sexual assault, and human trafficking
  • Keeps patients and family informed regularly and prn
  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients
  • Develops, discusses and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with family/significant other in order to address all identified needs
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to assure quality care
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development
  • Performs all responsibilities required by the emergency unit/critical care division as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the client served
  • Utilizes and follows national patient safety standards and develops practice standards that are evidence based
Qualifications:

Education:

  • 2 Year/Associate Degree in Nursing, required
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required
  • *** All RN's hired and that do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor's prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN's licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement, required
  • Sexual Assault Examiner Class - 40 hours of classroom training, required

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year hospital Med/Surg experience, required
  • Critical Care Nursing experience, required

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Valid NYS RN License, required
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS Certifications within 30 days from date of hire, required
  • TNCC Certification within 1 year of hire, required
  • ENPC, SANE (adult/peds) Certification, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work
  • Occasional crouching, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping
  • Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking, fit testing
  • Constant hearing

Hazards:
