JOB DUTIES: Assists in the set-up and preparation of learning materials and activities designed for learning, as directed by teacher; uses positive reinforcement strategies and other techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior; assists students in the development of independence, self-help, performance skills, and basic social skills, as designated by teacher; assists with meals and snacks as assigned; participates in the preparation and serving of food items and set-up/clean-up of tables; sanitary and orderly outdoor environment; maintains a positive, nurturing environment, which respects culture and diversity; sanitizes and disinfects toys, tables, chairs, and other classroom surfaces; supervises and monitors students while in the bathroom; and assists students with personal hygiene and grooming as needed; provides assistance to students with washing, diaper changing and toileting, and other personal care activities as needed; assists in the sign-in and sign-out procedures for ensuring the safety of students and compliance with state and licensing regulations as needed; assists teacher with the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans; assists the teacher with data collection for assessments; attends trainings and meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and receiving updated child development current best practice information. Ability to: Appropriately manage student behavior and guide students toward acceptable social behavior; implement learning activities for children; maintain a healthy and safe environment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; monitor and assist students; demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children; understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies; communicate effectively in the English language, both in oral and written form; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information; establish and maintain effective positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, teachers, and administrators.
