College student cover letter sample
Writing a cover letter for that first job after school is particularly difficult—and particularly important. This sample can help.
Writing a cover letter for that first job after school is kind of a catch 22. On one hand, you don't have much material to work with; on the other, you need a strong resume and cover letter to get you in the door.
Don't fret: Lots of people have done this before you and gone on to amazing careers. You'll just want to highlight what you've learned in school, side jobs, or internships that is relevant to the position. Did you take certification courses? Volunteer at a charitable organization? Lead a group project in college? Belong to any school clubs? Give a presentation to your class? Help a professor with a research project? There are plenty of ways you can show that you have both ambition and skills that are valued in the workforce.
It also helps to know where the jobs are. According to SmartAsset, the best cities for new college grads in terms of jobs and affordability are Columbus, OH; Cincinnati; Nashville; Pittsburgh; and Milwaukee.
