CIO Resume Sample

Go above-and-beyond with an approach that conveys both your technological accomplishments and a business-forward mindset.

By Omar Sommereyns, Monster Contributor

The most successful chief information officers (CIOs) are not only tech evangelists, but also multiskilled business leaders. And those characteristics are an important part of creating a competitive and well-rounded CIO resume. Of course, you should demonstrate how you’ve led modernizations or rehauls of a company’s IT and computer systems—providing recommendations to the executive team, implementing software upgrades and new hardware, and continually anticipating strategies to boost productivity and profitability.

But also show how you’re business-minded—approaching problems analytically, with the ability to handle budgets. Indicate how you’re aware of market trends and can understand product-development processes. Maybe you’re able to interpret datasets too and you’ve overseen cross-functional teams? Then mention that as well.

And given the later career stage that you’re in, definitely write a CIO professional summary to provide an overview of your work background. That should be the first item recruiters or hiring managers read on your CIO resume. Then insert a few CIO keywords all throughout, scan the document for any spelling or grammatical mistakes, and aim for a layout that prioritizes readability.
