Content Creator Resume Sample

Sustain your creative place in cyberspace by spotlighting your protean skills, enterprising nature, and self-sufficiency.

By Omar Sommereyns, Monster Contributor

Back in 1996, Bill Gates published a prescient essay—titled “Content Is King”—in which he posited: “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting.” Yet today, arguably, there’s too much content in cyberspace. Between the hundreds of millions of daily social-media posts and an equally enormous amount of blogs and digital media, does a humble content creator stand a chance?

Well, here’s the good news: There will always be room for you out there. You’ll just need to make sure your content creator resume is up to par to get the jobs and gigs you really want.

Crafting its structure should be purposeful, and you should display how enterprising and self-sufficient you are:

  • Content-creator skills need to encompass more than just writing, so mention your gamut accordingly, including photography, videography and video-editing, graphic design, web design, social-media marketing, and how adept you are with content management systems (CMS).
  • As Gates mentioned in his essay, “Anyone with a [computer] and a modem can publish whatever content they can create.” Now you just need WiFi, but great content that will last—that will become immortalized—is not so easily produced. Hence, showcase your overall stratagems, techniques, and style in a content-creator professional summary below your resume header.
  • Any solid content creator resume should explain how you’ve added true value to the companies you’ve worked with—from building audience/consumer trust and boosting organic traffic to their websites through SEO to generating leads and enhancing brand recognition.
  • Provide examples and quantify your achievements with numbers.
  • Maintain a fluid and active voice throughout—with neatly phrased, declarative sentences (free of any errors, of course).
