A company usually hires a COO for one or more specific reasons. They might need someone to head up special projects or initiatives. It could be they need someone to complement the CEO’s strengths or be in line for the CEO job when a move or retirement is in the near future.

To make sure the job is a good fit, your COO resume should clearly communicate your skills, experience, and goals. What components and features of your resume will help you with this? Choosing the right skills to emphasize is essential. It cuts to the chase when a hiring manager reads your resume for the first time. It also makes it easy to see if your skills line up with the job. This includes both hard and soft skills. Hard skills are things that can be taught, like financial analysis and budgeting. Personality traits determine soft skills like team-building and initiative.

One of the best ways to get those skills front and center is to put them in your professional summary. You can also create a separate skills section below the summary items in a bulleted list.
