To become a dentist, you first need your bachelor’s degree with some courses in biology, chemistry, and other related sciences. Next you will need to pass the Dental Acceptance Test (DAT), which is usually taken during your junior year in your undergraduate program. This test is important, as well as your academic standing, because getting into a dental program can be competitive.

According to PayScale, the average salary for a dentist is $150,573 per year, with a reported salary range of $100,000 to $235,000.

General Surgeon

Going under the knife is stressful for anyone, so it makes sense that the people we trust to perform these procedures earn a high salary. To become a general surgeon, you will need to first have a bachleor’s degree with undergraduate work in chemistry, biology, physics, English, humanities, mathematics, and social sciences. You will also want to ensure you have some work experience in a healthcare setting. Next, you need to pass the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) to apply to medical school programs, which involves two years of labs and classrooms and another two years working in the field alongside physicians.

According to PayScale, the average salary for a general surgeon is $309,144 per year, with a reported salary range of $186,000 to $452,000.

Medical directors are in charge of overseeing much of the operations of a company or healthcare facility. It’s no surprise that the role of a physician will be on a list of six-figure healthcare jobs, but similar to a surgeon, becoming a physician takes years of education before you can start practicing medicine.
